Yesterday, I ran an unplanned, spontaneous, yet deeply revealing experiment.
I tracked my moods throughout the day. Nothing elaborate. Just a little check-in with myself every time I notice a shift. Calm. Excited. Then flat. Anxious. Then dancing. Focused. Emotional. Flirtatious. Tearful. Then clear-headed again. And so it went. The list by the end of the day? A complete rollercoaster. Wild. Honest. Human.
At first, I laughed.
Then I paused. And honestly, I felt a little in awe.
Not because of how ‘all over the place’ I felt, but because of how aware I’ve become. I didn’t dismiss, numb, or bypass any of it. I didn’t shame myself. I didn’t try to tidy up the mess.
Instead… I witnessed it all.
And that’s no small thing. Especially in this season of life, midlife, perimenopause, becoming. When your hormones rewrite the rulebook. When what worked last year (or last week) no longer fits. When your nervous system is trying to regulate the tides of emotions while you’re just trying to remember what day it is.
But here's the thing.
There was a time I would’ve called this emotional chaos. Moodiness. Being too much. Now? I call it intimacy with Self. This is what self-discovery really looks like, not filtered, not linear, not always pleasant, but real. Lived. Felt.
And I’m not looking to fix this.
I’m learning to be with it.
There is nothing wrong with me. This isn’t a weakness. It’s not instability. It’s my body, my chemistry, my hormones, my life… speaking, moving and calling me into deeper awareness and care.
What this really reminded me of is: I get to hold space for all of me. Not just the composed, ‘together’ version. But the tender one. The weepy one. The sharp one. The radiant one. The sexy one. The bored one. The joyful one.
We spend so much time trying to stabilise ourselves into predictability. But I wonder… what if being this alive is the point?
So today, as I sip my tea, I’m bowing to every version of myself I met yesterday. Every shift. Every surge. Every flicker of feeling. Not one of them was wrong. They were simply messengers, reminding me I am still here, becoming.
Journaling Prompt
What version of me showed up today that I’m usually quick to dismiss, judge, or silence? What would it feel like to meet her with curiosity instead of control?
Let yourself free-write without trying to make sense of it. Just let the moods speak.
Call to Action
Don’t rush to feel “better.” Instead, get to know the woman you are right now. Check in with yourself three times today, morning, afternoon, and evening, and jot down how you’re feeling without editing it. One word. One sentence. A whole page. Whatever feels true.
This isn’t about mood tracking for control. It’s about cultivating intimacy with your inner world.
Because the more deeply you know yourself, the more fully you can show up, for your life, your body, and your Becoming.
