Hey Love,
I know the internet is full of picture-perfect summer inspiration, curated homes, effortless morning routines, and radiant faces glowing with ease. But can I be real with you for a moment?
Designing a life of joy and ease in midlife, especially with perimenopause, shifting energy, and the beautiful chaos of everyday life, is messy. It’s intentional. And some days? It feels impossible.
But here’s what I’ve learned: ease isn’t something that lands in your lap. It’s something you choose, over and over, even when the inner critic is loud, when your energy dips, when your hormones are making you question your own reflection.
This summer, I’ve been committed to designing joy and ease, not in a picture-perfect, Instagram-worthy way, but in the quiet, real, imperfect spaces of daily life.
Let me take you behind the scenes.
The Truth About Slowing Down
I used to feel guilty for slowing down, as if resting made me lazy, as if taking an afternoon to just be was selfish. Years of conditioning taught me that productivity equals worth.
But midlife has a way of unravelling the narratives that no longer serve us.
These days, slowing down looks like:
Letting the laundry wait so I can have my morning tea without the need to rush
Ignoring emails for an hour while I journal or sit in stillness
Saying no to invitations that drain me, even when I feel guilty
The guilt doesn’t disappear overnight, but neither does the knowing that I deserve a life that feels spacious.
Designing Joy in the Smallest Moments
You’ve probably seen me talk about how I style my home seasonally; it’s more than décor for me; it’s about energy.
This summer, joy looks like:
Blue cushions replacing spring greens, bringing the sea indoors
A summer-inspired essential oil in my diffuser, think bergamot and coconut
Switching up my gallery wall with seaside photos, reminding me to breathe
A playlist that makes me sway, reminding me I’m still allowed to dance
These small changes anchor me. They whisper, “This is your season, too, Love.”
My Real Summer Daily Rhythm
It’s not all blissful flow; some days are messy, hormonal, loud with self-doubt. But here’s my rhythm when I’m living aligned:
Morning: Tea in bed or at the park, journaling, light stretches
Midday: Nourishing meals, work in pockets of energy
Evening: Gentle walks, home rituals, candlelit stillness
And when I fall out of rhythm? I forgive myself, I start again. That’s the practice.
A Prompt for You
Pause and ask yourself:
“What would my day look like if I prioritised ease, even in small ways?”
“Where can I soften my schedule or my expectations?”
There’s no right answer, just honest reflection.
