Hello, my Love, and welcome to Day 1 of The Gentle End-of-Year Ritual, part of Midlife by Design: Curating Your Next Chapter.
I’m so glad you’re here.
We’re beginning softly because before we can reflect, release, or plan anything at all, we need to simply come back to ourselves.
So many of us have spent this year holding things together, navigating change, being reliable, being strong, being the one who knows what to do.
And in all of that movement and responsibility… we can drift a little away from our own inner centre. It happens quietly. Slowly. Without fault.
So today, we don’t fix.
We don’t optimise.
We don’t “try.”
We return.
Gently.
Honestly.
As we are.
The Soft Return
Take a moment and notice:
How am I arriving here today?
Not the polished version.
Not the “strong one.”
Not the good daughter, reliable friend, capable woman.
Just you.
Sometimes the truth sounds like: I’m tired. I’m stretched. I’m okay, but I want more softness. I don’t know how I feel yet.
All of it is welcome.
This is a space where nothing has to be proven.
Journaling Prompt
How am I, really?
Let your first answers come without cleaning them up.
Don’t write for wisdom.
Write for honesty.
Gentle Action
Sit somewhere still for one minute.
Hands on your chest or belly.
Slow inhale. Slow exhale.
Just be with yourself.
Sensory Ritual
Make a warm drink (tea, coffee, cacao, anything soothing).
Take the first three sips without your phone.
Feel the warmth.
Let your shoulders soften.
You are returning to yourself.
PS. If my words have helped you, a small contribution here will allow them to continue reaching the women who need them most.
This next part is where we move from simply noticing how you are to actually understanding what your inner world is holding.
Think of it as sitting down with yourself in a quieter room, where the truth has space to speak.
We’re not analysing or fixing.
We’re just listening more deeply.
This is where the year begins to soften, where the weight you’ve been carrying starts to loosen, and where your body gets to exhale after holding so much.
Take your time with this. There is no rush here.
Nervous System Grounding: The Exhale that Lowers the Shoulders
Before we reflect, we need safety in the body.
Do this slowly:
Exhale first, a long, steady release through the mouth.
Let your shoulders drop as you exhale.
Then inhale naturally (don’t pull it in).
Repeat five times, slow and quiet.
This signals to the nervous system: We are not in alert mode anymore.
Just notice the shift, even if it’s subtle.
Layered Self-Inquiry (The Part Beneath “I’m Fine”)
On a new page, finish these sentences without thinking:
This year felt like…
The hardest part was…
What I didn’t say out loud was…
I’m proud that I…
I’m still grieving…
I wish I had given myself more…
Keep going until something inside loosens. This is where truth begins to breathe.
Emotional Unclenching Practice
Scan your body slowly:
Jaw
Shoulders
Chest
Belly
Pelvis
Hips
Ask each part:
What are you holding for me?
Pause.
Listen.
Sometimes the witnessing is the release.
Identity Check-In
You are not who you were at the start of this year.
Write one sentence for each:
The version of me from early this year was…
The version of me now is…
The version I am becoming is…
No performing. Just truth.
Integration Prompt
What does my body need from me for the rest of today?
Choose just one, and honour it before the day ends.
This is how self-trust rebuilds: One small promise, kept gently.
Embodiment Ritual (3 minutes)
Stand.
Feet grounded.
Breathe slowly.
Say softly:
I have returned to myself. I am allowed to be here. I don’t need to rush.
Let your body hear it.
Closing Reflection Mapping
At the bottom of your journal, write:
Energy I began today with:
Energy I’m ending today with:
One thing I learned about myself today:
Keep this.
We will come back to it on Day 7.
This now has:
More presence
More emotional intimacy
More somatic grounding
More meaning-making
And the transition into depth feels natural and inviting.
