Life has been feeling like a rollercoaster lately. And as someone close to me once said with a cheeky smile, “You are the rollercoaster.”
One minute I’m laughing, inspired, productive…
Next, I’m deep in a teary meltdown, convinced I’m a mess.
Then I’m “fine.” Then I’m raging.
Then I’m normal, whatever that even means these days.
This is perimenopause.
A hormonal wild ride with no warning signs and no seatbelt.
And here I am, holding on, trying not to fall out.
Sleep has been another drama. There’s a rooster in the neighbourhood who clearly doesn’t respect personal boundaries. He starts crowing at 3.30 am like he owns the place. And me? I’ve always been a light sleeper. So yes, it’s affecting my health, my energy, my sanity. It’s not just the hormones, it’s life. It’s a lot.
But somehow, amidst the emotional chaos and early morning crowing, there are small, grounding rituals that bring me home to myself.
Like tea.
Not just tea, Empress Grey with a swirl of oat milk, honey and coconut sugar. It tastes like comfort. Like soft blankets and exhale. Like a pause in the storm. I make a pot in the morning and another in the afternoon. My own FIKA ritual. It reminds me to slow down, to sip, to feel.
I’ve been leaning into cosy foods too. Creamy pasta. Chicken and mushroom soup. I’m not apologising for it. I’m nourishing myself in the ways I need right now.
Because when your world feels wobbly, the little rituals, the tea, the food, the soft lighting, the walks, they matter more than ever. They hold you steady.
So today, if all you manage is to make yourself a cup of something warm and breathe deeply while you drink it… know that it counts. You count.
Journaling Prompt:
What’s one small, comforting ritual I can turn to when life feels overwhelming?
Inspired Action:
Make your next cup of tea or coffee a sacred pause. No phone. No distractions. Just you, the warmth in your hands, and a moment to feel your own presence again.
