I love the simple, unexpected discoveries. It's interesting how instances of discomfort are often what help clarify the things we want. Your off-grid cabin adventure sounds lovely.

I understand the discomfort of heat. During one summer in Oxford, I had taken a nap with my arm exposed to the sun. It felt like it was burning. But what caught my attention in your post was that you found McDonalds first. I guess McDonalds has its benefits. I don't suppose you can travel earlier or later than summer?

I live in CA, and my husband and I had a trip planned to go to HI. We're in our upper 50s and have never been. Everyone loves it. But we canceled it and are headed to the British Isles for the third time in 4 years. It is my heartbeat, just as I love the Pacific Northwest here. I love the cooler weather and mist. Scotland was delicious. I can't wait to go back and explore the English countryside this time.

My favorite time in Hawai`i is November when the shadows are longer and weather is much cooler.

Oh boy, that's the kind of vacation that makes you want to quit vacationing. But yes, there's always a lesson buried in these kinds of experiences if you choose to receive it. I'm with you about a cool mountain versus a hot beach. I hope your mountain holiday is everything you wish for and more.
