For so long, I thought celebration only belonged at the finish line. The award. The launch. The big milestone that proved the effort was worth it.
But midlife is teaching me something gentler: the small steps deserve celebrating, too.
Every choice to keep going when quitting felt easier. Every sleepless night spent carrying the weight of my dreams. Every quiet moment where I silenced the doubt and whispered to myself, “Just one more step.” Those are victories too.
Too often, we wait for the “big win” before we allow ourselves to feel proud. But the truth is, the journey itself deserves recognition. Because the courage it takes to show up for your own dreams, day after day, is no small thing.
So I’m learning to reward myself along the way, not always with grand gestures, but with the little joys that keep me grounded. A slow morning tea. A walk in the crisp air. Fresh flowers on the table. A whispered “well done” to myself at the end of a long day.
These are reminders that I’m doing better than I think. That progress is not just about outcomes, but about persistence. And that I don’t just deserve the dream at the end, I deserve the celebration along the way.
Because every step forward, no matter how small, carries weight. And every step is worth honouring.

A reflection for you:
What small step have you taken recently that deserves a pause, and how might you celebrate it today?
A tiny ritual to try:
Write down one quiet victory from this week. Light a candle. As the flame flickers, say out loud: “I honour this step. I honour me.”
