This morning, as I sat with my Empress Grey tea and the warmth of my hot water bottle, I felt a shift I’ve been longing for, a deep, steady calm that felt like coming home to myself.
I’ve been listening to Your Inner Awakening by Byron Katie, and her words have been echoing through me all day. She talks about how most of our pain and panic comes from leaving the present moment, from rushing into the future or holding onto the past. She invites us to ask ourselves, “Do I need what I’m worrying about right now, in this exact moment?”
When she asked her audience if they “needed money right now,” almost everyone said yes at first. But then she gently pressed, “Do you actually need it, right this second?” And slowly, the truth surfaced. In this moment, they were okay.
That landed in me like a bell ringing. How often have I panicked about what’s ahead? About how I’ll make something work? About money, love, time, and opportunities? And yet, right now, in this moment, I always have what I need. I am safe. I am here. I am okay.
Another moment that stayed with me was her reminder to look back at our worst seasons. Those dark nights where you couldn’t see a way out. And then to ask: “Did you survive it?”
Yes. Every single time.
When I look back at my own life:
In 2004, my divorce occurred while pregnant with Khushi.
In 2007, I lost my mum.
In 2008, I lost my first apartment in Norway and moved to the UK with a toddler.
In 2009, I was told to vacate the property I was renting as I was behind with rent.
These were my “I can’t do this” moments. And yet, I did. Every single time. I found a way.
And that’s what hit me today: it was never the external circumstances that saved me. It was always me. My choices. My courage. My resilience. My willingness to get back up and try again.
For so long, I’ve quietly believed that “enough” was somewhere out there, a number, a moment, a perfect alignment. But today, I can feel that enough is already here. In me. In this life. In this moment.
I don’t need to wait for more money, more visibility, more “proof” to live the life I envision. My 50-year-old self is already thanking me for showing up today, for doing the inner work, for believing we deserve more, for tending to the parts of me no one else could reach.
And that’s what I want to leave you with, if you’re reading this:
It was never about what you didn’t have. It was always about who you already are.
Work on the things no one can take from you: Your mindset, your character, your presence, your capacity to create and rebuild. That’s where the freedom lives.
I’ve promised myself that by 50, I will be living a life of ease, abundance, and impact, but what I realised today is that I don’t have to wait until then to feel it. I can start embodying that woman now, in how I move, speak, choose, and rest.
And so can you.
Today, I’m not longing. I’m not rushing. I’m not needing.
I’m here. I’m enough. And that feels like the biggest breakthrough of all.
