LIVE: The Beautiful Destruction of My Old Life

How losing the life I thought I had figured out made space for the one I was meant to curate.

In my first spontaneous Substack Live, I reflected on a message from Vishen Lakhiani’s Expert to Authority Summit that really stopped me in my tracks: the idea of “beautiful destruction” — that sometimes what has been working in our lives has to be dismantled to make space for what comes next.

“Sometimes you have to destroy a part of your life that is merely good to allow something truly great to enter.”

I looked back at 2023, when I genuinely felt I had everything figured out. My health was good, my business was thriving, my home was beautiful, and I felt like I had finally created the life I had worked so hard for. Then everything changed. Moving to Bedford, an experience of living with family that didn’t work, starting again in a new home, perimenopause, anxiety, declining work, and then losing my youngest brother in 2024 completely changed the trajectory of my life.

2025 became a year of coming back to myself through deep personal growth and self-discovery. Then 2026 brought another layer of change: improving my health, having hip replacement surgery, simplifying my business, merging my website and Substack, moving my CIC onto the same platform, and letting go of hundreds of old articles and, with them, older versions of myself.

Looking back now, I can see that the destruction wasn’t simply something that happened to me. It created space. By letting go of old systems, beliefs, ways of working, and ways of living, I created room for new ideas, opportunities, and a version of myself that couldn’t have emerged if I had stayed exactly where I was.

My takeaway is simple: sometimes when life seems to be going downwards, something else is making space to come up. We aren’t meant to stay the same forever. We’re meant to learn, evolve, grow, and become more fully ourselves. And sometimes the best thing we can do is simplify, let go, show up, and allow life to lead us.
