As I sit here with my tea, the soft hum of autumn lingering outside my window, I can feel October exhaling through me. It’s been a month that asked for gentleness, not in the way of doing less, but in how I approached everything. My routines, my space, my work, my inner world, all of it has been quietly rearranging itself, almost like life whispering, “slow down, you’re safe here.”
October wasn’t just a month of letting go. It was a month of living, of feeling deeply, moving through contrasts, and learning to hold joy and exhaustion, reflection and celebration, all at once. It felt like a season of expansion and contraction happening side by side, a quiet reminder that growth is rarely neat, and that becoming more yourself often requires both stillness and movement.
It’s funny, October has always felt like an in-between season to me, the soft landing between the vibrancy of summer and the quiet promise of winter. But this year, it carried more than a shift in temperature. It carried transformation. Not loud or dramatic, but gentle, grounded, almost imperceptible, like a tide slowly changing direction.
It began with movement, quite literally. I spent the first part of the month on the go: attending beautiful health and wellness events in London, connecting with women who reminded me that midlife isn’t a decline, it’s a deepening. I stood in rooms filled with stories of resilience, strength, and reinvention, and felt both inspired and grounded.
Then came moments of magic, the Water Lantern Festival, for one. Sitting under the open sky, pen in hand, writing my intentions for what I wanted to release and invite in, I realised that healing doesn’t always happen in stillness. Sometimes, it’s in the quiet courage of showing up, lighting a lantern, letting it go, and trusting the current to carry your hopes where they need to go.
And then came my birthday. Chapter 48.
A quiet milestone, but one that held weight. It didn’t ask for a big celebration; it asked for reflection. Turning 48 felt like arriving at a crossroads between who I was and who I’m still becoming. I looked back at my 47th year, the challenges, the growth, the unbecoming of old versions of myself, and I felt this deep exhale of gratitude. Not because everything is perfect, but because I’m present.
I was gently reminded that midlife is not a crisis, it’s a conversation. It’s the season where you finally start listening to yourself, really listening. To what your body needs. To where your energy flows with ease. To what feels good, not just what looks good. It’s the season of honest inventory, not just of your home or your goals, but of your spirit.
That’s what October became for me, an honest inventory.
I rearranged my space, yes, but I also rearranged my priorities. I released old energy from my home, decluttered drawers and habits, and began replacing them with rhythm and flow. I made peace with the fact that I don’t need to do it all, I just need to do what matters.
This was also the month I returned to my body, slowly, gently. After months of pain, movement in the pool felt like medicine. I remembered what strength feels like when it’s not forced, what healing feels like when it’s patient.
And amidst all the transformation, I’ve been reminded again and again that life doesn’t happen in big leaps; it unfolds in small, intentional steps.
In choosing to stay present.
In choosing to listen.
In choosing to try again.
So as I close this month, I don’t want to rush into the next. I want to pause here, in the middle of becoming, and honour what October has been: a month that stretched me, softened me, and taught me to begin again.
If there’s one thing this month whispered to me, it’s this:
You don’t have to have it all figured out to live fully. You just have to stay open to the change, the discomfort, the beauty, the becoming.
Your Invitation
Take a moment to sit with your own October.
Ask yourself:
What did I release, and what did I make room for?
What surprised me about myself?
Where did I grow quietly, without anyone noticing?
And then, ask yourself the most important question of all:
How do I want to feel in the next season of my life?
Because reflection is not about staying in the past, it’s about gathering wisdom for what’s next.
Here’s to closing October with grace and stepping into what’s next with presence, peace, and purpose.

Hi Kiran, I was brought here via Ana Calin’s chat. As a mid-lifer myself (is that what we now call ourselves?), I can relate 😊 Thanks for sharing this.
I can totally relate. Life is about the small moments. And a happy life is In learning to be at peace with whatever comes your way 🌹
