This afternoon, in the soft, cool air of Norway, I stood on the cabin porch with the mountains rising behind me and the fjords stretching out in front. The kind of beauty that makes you pause without even realising it. The kind of quiet that feels like it’s listening.
Something in me whispered — capture this.
Not just the view. Not just the mountains.
Me.
Here. Now.
So I set up my tripod. I took my time choosing an outfit that felt like me. I slipped into grey low-waist joggers, a light beige crop top and a long cashmere cardigan that made me feel both free and grounded. I dabbed on my signature scent, even though no one but the trees would notice. That was the point; this was for me.
And then, I stepped in front of the camera.
At first, it felt almost indulgent, this time spent photographing myself. But with each click, I realised, this wasn’t about vanity. It was about presence. About meeting myself in the stillness. About saying, You are here, and this chapter matters.
The lens caught more than my face, my clothes, my stance. It caught the quiet joy in my eyes. The ease in my shoulders. The way the wind moved through my hair. It caught proof that I am not rushing through this season of my life; I am inhabiting it fully.
I think about how often we wait for the “big moments” to take pictures. Birthdays. Holidays. Achievements. But what about the quiet mornings when the kettle is whistling, or the afternoon walks where the light is just right? What about the days where nothing “big” is happening, except for the fact that you are here, alive, evolving?
Today, I photographed the woman I am becoming. Not the polished, future version I think I should be. Not the version anyone else expects. But the real, unfolding, present-day me, in all my softness, strength, and in-between-ness.
And I know one day, when I look back at these pictures, I’ll remember more than how I looked. I’ll remember the way the Norwegian air felt on my skin. The way the mountains seemed to stand guard. The way I made time to see myself.
Because this wasn’t just about taking photos.
It was about choosing to be my own witness.
It was about honouring my becoming.
Journaling Prompt
If you were to photograph yourself in this exact chapter of your life, with no intention to post or share, what would you want to capture? What details, emotions, or truths would you want your future self to remember?
Inspired Call to Action
This week, take a photo of yourself with intention. Not to impress anyone else, but to honour the woman you are right now. Choose a setting that reflects your spirit, wear something that feels like you, and let the lens capture your essence. Keep it for yourself, as a love letter to your own becoming.
