Today’s been slow. The kind of day where nothing dramatic happens, but something quietly shifts inside you. I started the morning with good intentions, woke up rested, had my tonic, did a bit of journaling for the Summer Solstice… but halfway through, I realised I’m not the same woman who created those rituals a couple of years ago. And instead of pushing myself to keep going, I just… stopped. Let it be.
It’s been 31 degrees today, and perimenopause and heat are not friends. I was supposed to go to a yoga event to celebrate International Yoga Day, but I honoured what my body needed: stillness, shade, softness.
I stayed in. Had lunch. Watched the rest of a crime series on Netflix - something about the rhythm of it felt comforting. I don’t have a TV in my space, so when Khushi’s away overnight, I sneak into her room and make a little ritual of it. Just me, some stillness, and a story that doesn’t ask anything of me.
Later in the evening, I felt a quiet urge to move. Not big productivity energy - just a gentle shift.
So I got up and started tending.
I wiped down my plant babies and misted them with water.
Cleared my desk.
Bagged up the clothes I’d decluttered this morning.
Emptied the hoover and gave the space a quick once-over.
It wasn’t much. But it was enough. It felt good to have done something with care. No pressure, just presence.
Now I’m about to take a cool shower. The hot flushes have been intense today, but I’m not fighting them. I’m just listening.
I’ve come to realise that not every day needs to be deep or profound. Sometimes, healing looks like lying down. Sometimes, self-love looks like skipping events and watching Netflix. And sometimes, clarity comes after you've let yourself just be.
Today reminded me of this:
I don’t have to earn rest.
I don’t need to justify ease.
And I can trust myself to know what I need, moment by moment.
Softly, slowly, gently becoming.
With tea. With grace. Always.
