There is a distinct tension that lives in the days leading up to a major personal milestone. As October 19th — my 49th birthday — approached, alongside the release of my book, ‘From “What Now?” to “Watch Me!”: Midlife by Design, Not by Default’, I felt the creep of overwhelm. I wanted to celebrate, of course, but the expectation and pressure felt heavy. We often convince ourselves that turning a new age requires a pristine, high-octane transformation overnight.
Then real life happens, and thankfully, it grounds us.
By the evening of my birthday, after the whirlwind of launch day and hosting loved ones, the noise softened. I sat on my loveseat with a slice of mango cream cake resting in my lap, reading through the flood of messages, blessings, and book orders. Looking at those notifications wasn’t just looking at metrics; it was feeling the weight of deep human trust. To turn 49 while launching a book written from the depths of my own quiet reckonings reminded me of the central premise of this entire year: I am no longer waiting for a milestone to become her. I am already living her, one quiet decision at a time.
This post marks the official launch of The 49-to-50 Project — a 52-week intentional journey of self-curation, somatic honouring, and radical alignment as I walk the path toward my 50th year. Over the next twelve months, I am stripping away performative busyness, anchoring into sacred simplicity, and curating every corner of my life by choice, not by default.
