This morning, I woke to the softest sound, just the breeze moving through the air. The quiet here feels like an exhale, like the whole landscape is breathing with me. The only companions were the trees rustling, the birds singing, and the gentle hum of bees. Normally, I’d fill this kind of silence with TV, music, or a podcast, but today I simply sat with it. If the morning could speak, it would whisper: This moment is all you have, embrace it.
Without the press of a schedule, the simplest thoughts rose to the surface: that life doesn’t always need to be filled, that there’s value in simply being. My heart and soul relaxed into that truth, even as my brain tried to argue that stillness was “wasting time.” There was a tug-of-war between wanting to fill the space and stretching into it, and I chose to stretch.
In that stillness, the loudest truth was about clarity, not just about what I want for my life, but what I need in relationships of all kinds. I’ve realised I want people around me who can stand strong in themselves, take the lead, and meet me in presence. The realisation wasn’t heavy, it was freeing. It was the kind of truth that sharpens your boundaries without bitterness.
Later, sitting on the porch with my tea, time expanded. The warmth, the gratitude, the sense of surrender, all of it wrapped around me. It felt like everything in me was aligned: mind, body, heart, and spirit. If I could freeze that moment, I would return to it whenever I needed to remember who I am at my most grounded.
Today also brought a sign that felt perfectly timed: I came across She’s Unstoppable Summit, three days of learning to quiet the noise in our minds, expand our hearts, and live without leaving ourselves behind. It feels like exactly what this season is asking of me.
By evening, I realised the quiet had settled most deeply in my mind. I found myself stepping away from my phone and laptop without resistance, and noticing that mental and emotional noise, the kind that had taken over in recent weeks, is easier to release than I thought. In the stillness, there was no discomfort, just the reminder that so much of what disturbs our peace comes from outside ourselves.
Today’s choices were guided by that quiet: I went on a long walk, and for the first time since arriving, I crossed paths with another human, a man and his dog, passing by. And yet, even in that brief encounter, I held onto the stillness.
The part of this slowing down I want to protect when I leave? Guarding myself from external noise and the weight of other people’s energy. Because here’s what I’ve learned: when the noise falls away, what’s left is the truest version of me.
