Seeing this sunrise from my bed just reminds me of what really matters, the small moments that make everything magical. My day began with a glorious burst of colour over the mountains, thick mist hovering above the fjords. As the morning went on, the mood shifted, gloomier skies, the fog still lingering. I sat in the armchair with breakfast and a hug in a mug, looking out at the view, feeling that delicious pull to keep the day slow.
I decided I’d go with the flow. I’d still tidy up, cook nourishing meals, do a load of laundry (my cabin wardrobe is rather limited), go for a walk, journal, maybe take an afternoon nap just because I can. If the mood struck, I might even start mapping out the rest of the year. But there was no urgency. Only an ease in knowing I could simply be.
When I stepped outside, the air was cool enough for my body to exhale without feeling the cold. My shoulders softened, my chest expanded, and it felt as though the view itself was holding me. There’s no other way to describe it but je ne sais quoi. If the air could speak, I think it would tell me to stay with it, to let it show me that I need nothing else in this very moment. My heart swelled with the same warmth I feel walking through woodlands on a late autumn afternoon. Nature has this way of letting me blend in with her, until I feel like we are one.
This morning, my body thanked me. It wanted a nourishing breakfast and a little extra pampering. It reminded me that I don’t always need to be doing something, that sitting here, wrapped in a blanket with the view framed by the window, is more than enough. True nourishment today meant rest, unplugging, a walk in the fresh air, a hot shower, good food, and the luxury of napping in the afternoon sun. I promised myself I’d keep showing up for Pilates every day, even with the soreness of restarting my practice a couple of days ago.
The soul moment of the day was the simplest: watching the sunrise from my bed. There was no rushing, no guilt, no distraction, just me being fully present. It took me back to my solo trip to Paris in September 2019, where I felt the same contentment in my bones. When I slow down enough to notice moments like this, my whole body exhales gratitude.
I realised how much I can invite micro-pleasures into my daily life, transforming the mundane into rituals: savouring that first sip of tea, lighting scented candles even in daylight, cooking with presence, walking in nature, tending to my home and belongings with quiet reverence. These little things make me feel more at home in my body and in my life.
Today, my walk was when I felt most at home in myself. I met my body’s needs fully, and the lingering ache from Pilates felt like a reminder of strength returning. Tonight, I’m grateful to my body for carrying me, for all the ways it quietly supports me without asking for anything in return. My promise is simple: I will make you my main priority, and I will look after you.
