Since arriving at the cabin in the Norwegian Highlands six days ago, my days have taken on a rhythm that feels both unfamiliar and deeply natural.
I have a very minimal wardrobe here, the same cosy layers on rotation. My skincare, make-up, haircare, and body care are stripped back to the bare essentials. I use the same plate, bowl, mug, and cutlery every day. My meals are simple, mostly fish and fresh vegetables. I nap when I’m tired. I sit outside on the porch, soaking in the stillness of the mountains and the fjords. I start mornings slowly, end evenings quietly, and carve out afternoons for creation and work. I walk through the woodlands. I move my body with Pilates.
Health has become my main priority, but not in the way the world usually sells it. Better health isn’t just about the food on your plate or the number of workouts you tick off. It’s about your mindset. It’s about how you treat yourself in the spaces in between.
Here’s what I’ve been learning here:
Aim for Progress, Not Perfection
Health is built on small, consistent steps, not flawless days. Celebrate tiny wins. Focus on showing up, not doing it “perfectly.” Let consistency be your superpower.
Stress Is a Signal, Not a Sentence
Stress is simply your body speaking to you. Pause before reacting. Ask what’s really behind the tension. Respond with curiosity, not panic.
Rest Is Productive
Rest isn’t the opposite of productivity; it’s part of it. Schedule recovery like you do workouts. Take intentional pauses. Protect your energy as fiercely as your time.
Listen to Your Body, Not Your Critic
Your body knows what it needs. Your inner critic just gets loud. Notice hunger, fatigue, tension. Move in ways that feel good. Offer your body kindness, not punishment.
Wellness Is a Lifestyle, Not a Finish Line
There’s no “endpoint” to health; it’s a lifelong relationship with yourself. Build habits, not quick fixes. Make choices you can sustain. Focus on feeling good for life.
These mountains have shown me that health isn’t something I “do.” It’s something I live. And the more I slow down, the more I realise, the best thing I can do for my well-being is to make my whole life feel like this.
