There is a particular kind of clarity that seems to arrive when you have been away from your normal environment for long enough. Somewhere between the mountains, the quiet, the cups of tea on the terrace, and the complete absence of the usual demands of Home, I’ve started seeing my life and my work from a different distance. I came to the cabin intending to write my book, and instead I’ve found myself untangling ideas that have been sitting quietly in the back of my mind for years. The latest one arrived with a rather satisfying sense of “Oh. Of course!”
For years, I’ve wanted to simplify the way I run my two businesses online. I run Kiran Singh, Midlife by Design, and The Sattva Collective CIC, and doing that alone can be a handful at the best of times. Each has had its own WordPress website and its own Substack publication, which meant four separate places to maintain, update, publish, organise, and mentally keep track of. Four platforms, four sets of moving parts, four places to remember when something needs changing. And while each platform made sense individually when I set it up, collectively they had become unnecessarily complicated.
I’ve known for years that I wanted a simpler solution. I’ve thought about it, looked at different options, and wondered whether there was a way to bring everything together without losing what makes each publication what it is. The problem was never that I didn’t know I wanted simplicity. I simply hadn’t found the right tool or platform that allowed me to create it in the way I actually wanted.
Until now.
I’m moving both Substack publications to their own custom domains. Instead of having my two WordPress websites and two Substack publications sitting separately, each publication will have one home. One place for the reader. One place for me to manage. One digital home for Midlife by Design and one digital home for The Sattva Collective.
And honestly, the relief I feel about this is disproportionate to what might sound like a relatively mundane business decision.
Because when you run two businesses by yourself, the little things aren’t little. Every extra login, every additional platform, every piece of content that needs to exist in two places, every system that needs updating, and every decision about where something belongs take up a tiny bit of mental space. None of it is particularly difficult on its own, but collectively it creates friction.
I’ve spent years reducing friction everywhere else in my life. I’ve decluttered my Home. I’ve simplified my wardrobe. I’ve created dedicated homes for the things I own. I’ve made my everyday routines easier and more intuitive. I’ve built a business around what matters to me. I’ve even realised that I don’t want a complicated skincare or getting-ready routine; I want to be able to pull on a simple outfit, put on my jewellery, moisturise, do a tiny bit of make-up if I feel like it, and walk out the door feeling fabulous without turning it into a project.
So why would my business be any different?
This is the final piece.
I can see it now: everything under one roof.
Midlife by Design becomes the go-to home for my work with midlife women. The essays, conversations, resources, projects, and everything else that belongs within the world I’ve been building for years will live there. The Sattva Collective will have its own home, with its own identity and purpose, without me having to maintain an entirely separate publishing ecosystem alongside it.
And there is something quite satisfying about knowing that Midlife by Design is already becoming what I always wanted it to be. I won the Midlife Lifestyle Design Platform of 2026 award last month, which still makes me smile, and I think this move is the final piece of that picture. Not because a domain change creates the platform, but because the infrastructure finally reflects the vision I’ve been carrying for years.
There is work involved, of course. The Sattva Collective will move into its new home by the end of August, while Midlife by Design will follow by the end of September. I have more than 500 articles to migrate for Midlife by Design alone, so I am under no illusion that this is going to be a five-minute job. 😂 But for once, the scale of the task doesn’t make me question the decision. I can already feel how much lighter it will be when it is done.
And that is perhaps the biggest difference between this and some of the things I’ve tried to do in the past. I’m not adding another project because I’m bored and need something to work on. I’m removing complexity because I can finally see exactly what needs to happen.
That feels very different.
And then I see October
There is a scene that keeps appearing in my head, and I think it is one of the reasons I’m so excited about this particular decision.
It’s Thursday, 1 October 2026.
Not a deadline. Not a day when I’m frantically trying to finish everything. The deadline has already passed. 25 September is the deadline. By then, the migration is done. The websites are in their new homes. The manuscript is submitted and ready for its next chapter. The practical work of putting everything into place is finished.
October is for celebrating.
I can almost feel that morning.
I wake up knowing there isn’t another platform hanging over me. There isn’t a migration folder waiting to be worked through. There aren’t four different digital homes competing for my attention. The work that needed doing has been done. My book manuscript is submitted and ready for release on my 49th birthday, 19 October. The 49-to-50 Project is beginning. My birthday month is here.
And outside my window, it is Autumn.
That beautiful in-between season I love so much, when the light begins to soften, the air becomes cooler, and the world seems to slow down just enough to notice it. I imagine making my morning tea, putting on something that feels completely like me, walking into my Home and feeling that delicious sense that everything is where it belongs.
Not perfect.
Not finished forever.
Just in place.
I want October to feel like exhaling.
I want to celebrate my birthday, the book, the beginning of the 49-to-50 year, and this new chapter of Midlife by Design. I want to enjoy the height of my soulmate season rather than spend it buried under migration spreadsheets and website admin. 😂 I want to go out, meet people, wander through Autumn, take myself for coffee, visit bookshops and flea markets, walk along the embankment, attend sketch sessions, create memories and simply participate in my own life.
The practical work is for September.
October is for living.
And perhaps that’s why this decision feels so much bigger than moving two publications to custom domains.
It is another act of making space.
I’ve been doing this for years physically, and now I’m doing it digitally. I’m removing the unnecessary layers. I’m bringing things home. I’m creating a simpler structure that supports the woman and the businesses I have become, rather than forcing myself to keep maintaining systems that belonged to an earlier version of my life.
There is something deeply satisfying about that.
The timing feels almost perfect
When I arrived at the cabin, I thought I had one job: finish my book.
Instead, the quiet has given me room to see what comes next.
I’ve clarified the 49-to-50 Project. I’ve decided what I want my business to look like for the rest of 2026. I’ve extended #85WeeksToFifty through to October 2027 and started putting the remaining interviews in place. I’ve realised I want to take my work out from behind the screen and into real rooms with real women. The Central Library has said yes to my first Midlife & Menopause drop-in session on 12 September, and I’m exploring a monthly meet-up elsewhere.
I’ve realised I want to put myself back into circulation too. I want to go for walks, sit in cafés, sketch, paint, visit bookshops and flea markets, attend local events, and simply be around people. I want to give friendship, community, and love a chance to find me.
And now I’ve clarified how I want my digital business world to work.
It’s all connected.
Less clutter.
Less friction.
Less unnecessary complexity.
More space.
More presence.
More real life.
More room for the woman emerging underneath all those years of being a mother, daughter, sister, business owner, creator, organiser, and problem-solver.
I think that is what this cabin has really given me. I didn’t come here and suddenly become a different person. I simply had enough space to hear myself think without constantly being needed by someone else.
And once there was enough space, the answers started arriving.
One home. Not four.
So, over the next few weeks, I’ll be quietly moving things around behind the scenes. The Sattva Collective will be in its new home by the end of August, and Midlife by Design will follow by the end of September. There will be hundreds of articles to move, links to check, details to tidy, and undoubtedly a few moments where I wonder why on earth I decided to migrate more than 500 pieces of content. 😂 But I know it will be worth it.
Because when October arrives, I don’t want to be looking at four platforms and wondering what needs updating.
I want to look at my work and see one clear home for each thing I’ve built.
I want to know where everything belongs.
I want my readers to know where to find me.
I want my businesses to feel as simple and intentional on the inside as they increasingly feel from the outside.
And then I want to close the laptop.
Because there is a life waiting beyond it.
October can wait
For now, I’m still sitting here in the Norwegian Highlands. There is still the mountain air, the cabin, the terrace, the tea, and the strange luxury of having enough space to think. My brother is still here, occasionally eating his way through the groceries and making noises that test my capacity for human company. The book is still waiting for those final expert contributions. There is still a migration ahead of me.
But the vision is clear.
I can see Thursday, 1 October.
I can see myself waking up and knowing that the work is done. The manuscript is ready. The websites are in their new homes. The 49-to-50 Project is about to begin. My birthday is around the corner. Autumn is here. My soulmate season is in full swing. And instead of rushing around trying to fix, finish, and organise everything, I get to celebrate.
I get to breathe.
I get to live.
I get to walk into this next chapter with my hands relatively empty because I’ve finally stopped carrying things I don’t need.
That is what I’m building now.
Not a bigger life.
A simpler one.
One that has room for my work, my Home, my creativity, my friendships, my community, my body, my solitude, my love life, and, most importantly, me.
Everything under one roof.
And then, finally, I can close the door on the years of constantly juggling everything and step outside.
October, I’m ready for you ❤️

The Cabin Diaries - Day 6: Let Go of the Timeline You Didn’t Write
Last night I found out that my stay at the cabin will be cut four days shorter. I won’t lie, I felt a wave of disappointment. This place has held me like a cocoon, away from the noise of the world, giving me space to think, reset, and return to myself.

Simplicity allows more room for discovery. I already imagine the space you've cleared for yourself.
