Last night I found out that my stay at the cabin will be cut four days shorter. I won’t lie, I felt a wave of disappointment. This place has held me like a cocoon, away from the noise of the world, giving me space to think, reset, and return to myself.
But then, a quiet thought whispered through the frustration: Let go of the timeline you didn’t write.
How often do we grip onto a plan that was never really ours? How many times have I felt behind in life because I was measuring myself against a story I didn’t even write?
By 40, you should have this. By midlife, you should be that. We absorb so many expectations without questioning if they even fit us. I’ve done it, more than once, chasing timelines that left me burnt out, bitter, or disconnected.
The truth? There is no one-size-fits-all timeline.
The idea that I’m “behind” is just a story, and honestly, not a very good one. A timeline built on comparison, shame, or outdated success markers doesn’t deserve a single chapter in my life.
Maybe life had to delay certain things for me to grow into the woman who could actually receive them. Maybe the people, opportunities, and places I lost weren’t rejections, just redirections.
So I’m using this shift, this shorter stay, to ask better questions:
What matters to me now?
How do I want the rest of this year to feel?
What if this, right now, is exactly where I’m supposed to be?
August is a threshold. We’re not at the start of the year, nor the end. It’s a chance to check in with your soul. To get honest about what still matters and what’s ready to be left behind.
No more living by borrowed timelines.
I’m writing my own story now.
And it starts here.
