Hi, 😊
There is a question that can arrive quietly in midlife; not necessarily because anything is terribly wrong, but because sometimes your life is perfectly functional. You are working, parenting, caring, managing, showing up, getting things done. And yet, somewhere underneath all of it, you find yourself wondering, “Is this really how I want to spend the next chapter of my life?”
I think we can be so accustomed to coping that we forget we are allowed to choose.
We inherit ideas about what a successful life should look like. We absorb expectations about who we should be, what we should want, what we should tolerate and when we should settle. Then one day, we look around and realise that the life we have been faithfully maintaining may not quite fit the woman we have become.
That realisation isn’t necessarily a crisis; it might be a crossroads.
A chance to pause and ask yourself what actually matters now. What feels good. What no longer fits. What you want more of. What you are ready to release. What you might build if you stopped designing your life around everyone else’s expectations.
You don’t need to answer all of those questions this morning; just choose one.
Today’s inspired action: ask yourself, “If I were designing this next chapter for me, what is one thing I would do differently?”
Don’t worry about how yet. Just listen to the answer. Sometimes the next chapter begins with a question.
What now?
And if that question has been quietly following you too, my new book, From “What Now?” to “Watch Me!”: Midlife by Design, Not by Default, is for you. It is published on 19 October, my 49th birthday, and I would love for you to come into this next chapter with me.
My New Book is Coming: 19th October 2026
From the outside, midlife can look like a woman who has done everything she was supposed to do: she has been responsible, capable, needed. She has held it all together for years, and yet, somewhere along the way, she has started asking a quiet, life-altering question:
