I think we sometimes confuse a good life with an impressive life.
The bigger house. The successful business. The enviable holiday. The exciting relationship. The beautifully curated Instagram feed.
But increasingly, I’m asking myself a different question.
Does my life feel good when nobody is looking?
Because that is the life that interests me now. The quiet cup of tea in my favourite mug. Fresh sheets. A walk when the air feels crisp against my face. Food I actually enjoy eating. A home that feels like me. A conversation where I don’t have to perform. An afternoon with nowhere I need to be. A body that I listen to instead of constantly criticising. A business that supports my life rather than swallowing it.
These things might not look particularly impressive from the outside, but they can feel extraordinary from within.
Maybe that is one of the gifts of getting older: becoming less interested in building a life that photographs well and more interested in building one that feels good to live inside.
So today’s inspired action is wonderfully simple.
Ask yourself: What is one ordinary thing in my life that actually makes me very happy?
Then notice it, don’t rush past it, and let yourself have the pleasure of knowing that perhaps your life contains more goodness than you have been giving yourself time to see.
See you tomorrow for your next Midlife Edit ❤️
