The past few days? They’ve been a bit of a ride.
I’ve cried over the smallest things, like seeing breadcrumbs on the worktop.
I’ve been wide awake at 2 am, body on fire with hot flushes.
My mood has swung like a pendulum, and my hip has been screaming thanks to this thick, humid air.
Some moments I feel wired, like I could conquer the world. Others, I want to crawl into my bubble and sob.
No day is the same. No hour, even.
And here’s the truth: I used to fight it. I used to panic when I wasn’t “productive.” When I couldn’t tick the boxes, get the steps in, or keep up the momentum. I told myself I was lazy, unmotivated, broken.
Of course, I lost that fight.
Because you can’t out-hustle hormones. You can’t out-discipline a body that’s begging for change.
So, I stopped trying to control every moment. I stopped planning my days down to the hour.
Now, I ask my body what she wants and needs, and I listen.
If she’s calling for movement, we move.
If she wants to rest, we rest.
If the tears come? (and they do, all the time) I let them.
Because this… this is my new normal.
Here’s the thing about perimenopause:
The symptoms? They’re not random.
They’re not punishments.
They’re messengers.
Loud, unfiltered ultimatums.
Hot flushes, night sweats, anxiety, brain fog, aching joints, they’re how our bodies scream what we’ve been ignoring:
You can’t keep putting yourself last. Something has to give, and it can’t be you.
The women who resist this season?
Who tries to pretend it’s not happening?
Who pushes, hustles, and grinds harder out of fear?
They struggle the most. Believe me, I've been there.
But the ones who soften into it? Who stops apologising, starts honouring their needs, and begins rewriting the rules? They find something so unexpected it almost feels sacred:
Relief.
Liberation.
A sense of coming home to themselves.
So, if perimenopause has forced you to finally put yourself on your own priority list, good.
It’s about time.
You deserve to be at the top.
Not in a loud, performative, “self-care Sunday” kind of way, but in the quiet, essential, deeply human way.
The kind that says:
I matter.
Even like this.
Especially like this.
So here’s your invitation, today:
Let go of the fight.
Let yourself be where you are.
Surrender to the rhythm of your body.
Trust her.
She’s wiser than you know.
