e’ve all heard about journaling.
Morning pages. Brain dumps. Gratitude lists.
The usual suspects when it comes to putting pen to paper.
But have you ever tried writing a story… where you are the main character?
Not a list. Not a goal.
A story.
Where you get to pour your heart out.
Speak your deepest desires.
Craft moments that feel like home.
Let your imagination hold you.
I did that last week.
I started writing my Love Story.
The one where I meet my Soulmate.
Where our connection is instant, but ancient, like we’ve known each other for lifetimes.
Where we grow together, fiercely and gently.
Love each other deeply while honouring our individual paths.
I even gave him a name.
He felt real.
And something wild happened the more I wrote.
A part of me that had been locked away began to rise.
The version of me who was once too much, too opinionated, too headstrong, too independent. The girl who had boundaries. Who stood her ground. Who wasn’t afraid to want what she wanted. The girl society silenced.
She returned.
The more I wrote, the more I remembered her. Not just in my mind, but in my body, in my breath, in my being.
And then, just as softly as it came, something shifted.
After about a week of writing this love story, I disconnected from it. I didn’t feel the same pull anymore.
And that’s when it clicked:
That story had served its purpose.
It brought me back to myself.
So, I started writing a new one.
The Story of My Becoming.
Not a fantasy.
Not a someday.
But real life.
Right now.
Messy, honest, midlife.
Perimenopause.
The push and pull of showing up every day.
Some days I feel fucking fabulous, unstoppable, radiant, on fire.
Other days, I want to stay in my bubble, soft and quiet.
Both are valid. Both are mine.
This story isn’t about waiting. It’s about choosing.
Choosing to be the woman I aspire to be, for the life I desire, the love I want to receive, the community I want to lead, the clients I want to serve, and the version of me I want to fall in love with, again and again.
And on the days when the yearning for my Soulmate creeps in, because it does, I write him letters. I include them in my story. He lives in the pages, for now.
But so do I.
Fully.
Finally.
So if you’re feeling lost, overwhelmed, disconnected from yourself, try writing a story.
Not just about you.
But for you.
Let the page be your mirror.
Let it hold the version of you that’s been waiting to be seen.
Not someday.
Today.
