There are moments in my life when time simply disappears. When I’m writing and the words pour through me. When I’m cooking and the rhythm of chopping, stirring, tasting feels like meditation. When I’m walking, the world softens until it’s just me, breath, and earth beneath my feet.
That, I’ve realised, is flow.
For years, I thought productivity was about pushing, ticking off lists, racing against the clock, and squeezing more into the day. But midlife is teaching me something different: my most alive moments are not the ones I push through, but the ones I sink into.
Flow isn’t about speed. It’s about presence. It’s when challenge meets joy. When focus feels effortless. When you’re so immersed in what you’re doing that the outside noise, the notifications, the deadlines, the proving, finally fades away.
And here’s the beauty of it: flow doesn’t need to look grand. It doesn’t have to be writing a book or running a marathon. It can be gardening, dancing in the kitchen, learning a new skill, or losing yourself in music. It’s less about the activity, more about the way it roots you back into yourself.
In this season of my life, I’m no longer chasing “more.” I’m choosing flow instead. Because those moments of deep focus, where I feel both stretched and soothed, are the ones that carry me home to myself.

A reflection for you:
Where in your life do you find flow, those rare moments when time disappears and you feel most alive?
A tiny ritual to try:
Choose one flow activity this week, something that lights you up from the inside. Set aside 30 minutes. Switch off your phone. Let yourself be absorbed, fully, without apology.
