There comes a point in midlife where the old ways simply stop working, not always dramatically, not in a way that makes the outside world sit up and take notice. Sometimes it happens quietly, internally, right in the middle of ordinary days. You wake up one morning and realise you can no longer keep performing a life that no longer fits.
That has been one of the deepest truths of my own midlife, not that everything fell apart overnight, but something in me stopped being willing to live on autopilot, to cope, to postpone, to shrink my desires into something more acceptable, to keep choosing what looked fine over what felt true.
And that is the space this book was born from.
From “What Now?” to “Watch Me!”: Midlife by Design, Not by Default is not a wellness list dressed up as transformation. It is not another book asking women to optimise themselves into exhaustion. And it is certainly not about becoming somebody else.
It is about returning to yourself, with honesty. It is about the moment a woman stops asking for permission and starts making decisions from truth. It is about identity, power, choice, and standards. It is about the kind of reset that does not begin with a checklist, but with a line in the sand. The kind where you decide: “I cannot keep living like this.” And then, slowly, bravely, beautifully, you begin again.
This book moves through the five core life areas that shape how we actually live: well-being, self-discovery, relationships, purpose and money, and quality of life. Because midlife does not unravel in one neat category. It shows up everywhere: in the body, in the home, in our confidence, in our boundaries, in our ambition, in the way we speak to ourselves, and in the standards we keep tolerating long after they have expired.
What I wanted to create was something more human than advice. More honest than inspiration. More useful than empty encouragement.
So this book is part story, part mirror, part reset.
It is for the woman who feels the shift but has not fully named it yet.
The woman who knows she has outgrown a version of herself, but is still standing in the in-between.
The woman who wants more, not in a loud, performative way, but in a grounded, self-honouring, ‘enough-is-enough’ kind of way.
It is for the woman who is tired of living by default.
And maybe that is the heart of it. Midlife by default looks like coping. Pleasing. Delaying. Staying in situations, patterns, identities, and expectations that no longer match who you are becoming.
Midlife by design looks different. It looks like choosing on purpose. Curating what stays and what goes. Listening to your body. Trusting your own standards. Letting your life reflect the woman you actually are now, not the woman the world got used to.
That is the energy of this book. Not passive reflection. Movement. Not just “What Now?“, but “Watch Me!“
Watch me tell the truth. Watch me honour my body. Watch me stop abandoning myself. Watch me raise the standard. Watch me build a life that feels like mine.
Writing this book has felt deeply personal in a way I cannot fully explain. It has not just been about pulling together ideas I believe in, it has been about naming the shifts I have lived. The ones that cracked me open, called me higher, and asked me to stop waiting for the perfect moment to become myself.
This book is for women in that place. Women navigating reinvention, menopause, heartbreak, healing, identity shifts, empty nests, relationship changes, career pivots, grief, aliveness, and the quiet but undeniable sense that life is asking more of them now. Not more performance, more truth.
The book is due on 19th October (my 49th birthday) and is now available to pre-order on Amazon, which still feels surreal to write.
If you have been part of this space for a while, thank you. Truly. You have seen the becoming in real time. You have watched me write my way through change, through uncertainty, through healing, and into something steadier, clearer, and more fully mine.
And if this book sounds like it was written for you, maybe it was.

Seeking Midlife Women for a Book on Reinvention, Identity, and Designing Your Next Chapter
I’m looking to feature women aged 45+ who are willing to share honest reflections, lived wisdom, and personal insight from this chapter of life.
The book explores five core areas where midlife often asks us to re-evaluate everything:
Health and Overall Well-Being
How your relationship with your body, energy, hormones, healing, or strength has changed.
Identity / Self-discovery / #MEMYSELF&I
Who you’ve become, what you’ve reclaimed, and what you’re no longer willing to shrink around.
Relationships and Connections
Boundaries, friendship, love, loss, and the connections that feel safe, mutual, and true.
Purpose, Work and Money
Redefining success, choosing more aligned work, and creating a future that reflects who you are now.
Quality of Life
Home, daily rhythms, pleasure, beauty, peace, and what makes life feel like yours.
I’m especially interested in hearing from women who have experienced a meaningful internal shift in midlife, whether through menopause, divorce, grief, burnout, healing, career change, empty nest, illness, reinvention, or simply waking up and realising you wanted more for yourself.
You do not need to be publicly known or have a perfect story. I’m not looking for performance. I’m looking for honesty, nuance, courage, and the kind of wisdom that only comes from lived experience.
Responses will be shared via a written interview.
If selected, your insight may be featured in the book as part of a wider conversation around what it means to live midlife by design, not by default.
If this sounds like you, I’d love to hear from you, simply drop me an email at hello@kiransinghuk.com.

This is so exciting, Kiran! And I do believe that you were born to write this very book. Can't wait to see what you put on the page!
