We have become rather obsessed with starting over.
New month. New notebook. New routine. New goals. New version of ourselves who wakes at 5 am, drinks green juice, meditates, exercises, answers emails before breakfast, and somehow has a perfectly organised fridge.
Perhaps she exists.
I definitely don’t know her 😂
What I do know is that midlife has taught me something different: Sometimes you don’t need to start again; you simply need to continue differently.
You can keep the parts of your life that are working. You can change the parts that aren’t. You can make one small adjustment without declaring the entire previous chapter a failure.
You don’t need to throw everything away to make room for something new.
Maybe this morning you simply drink your coffee before it goes cold, go outside for ten minutes, finally answer the message you’ve been avoiding, or maybe you stop doing something that drains you.
A life doesn’t change only through dramatic decisions; it changes through the tiny choices we make repeatedly.
So if you’re feeling like you need a complete reset, pause before you press the big red button, and ask yourself:
What if I don’t need to start over? What if I just need to start from here?
See you tomorrow for your next Midlife Edit ❤️

“Continue differently” is doing a lot of quiet work in this piece, and I think it’s the harder option, not the softer one.
A full reset at least gives you something to say. There’s a date, a before and after, people know how to respond to it. Deciding to keep most of your life and change one draining part of it comes with no announcement at all — you just do it, on a Tuesday, and nobody notices.
Which is probably why it lasts longer than the new notebook.🫶🏻
