“Continue differently” is doing a lot of quiet work in this piece, and I think it’s the harder option, not the softer one.

A full reset at least gives you something to say. There’s a date, a before and after, people know how to respond to it. Deciding to keep most of your life and change one draining part of it comes with no announcement at all — you just do it, on a Tuesday, and nobody notices.

Which is probably why it lasts longer than the new notebook.🫶🏻

Yes! “On a Tuesday, nobody notices”— exactly this. I think we’re so conditioned to believe that change has to be dramatic to count, when some of the most important decisions we make are almost invisible to everyone else. There’s no announcement, no grand gesture, no shiny new notebook required; you just quietly decide that something no longer gets to drain you, and then you start doing things differently. And perhaps that’s the kind of change that really sticks because it becomes part of your life rather than another project you have to maintain.
