There is something about Sundays that can make us feel as though we should be getting ahead: meal prep, laundry, emails, planning, organising, checking the calendar, preparing ourselves for another week of being useful, and so on.
The Weekend Is Not a To-Do List
Remember when weekends meant actual rest? Now, it’s laundry. Grocery shopping. Cleaning. Cooking. Entertaining kids. Catching up on emails. Finishing what the week didn’t let you finish.
But what if Sunday could simply be Sunday? What if you didn’t have to squeeze productivity out of every quiet hour? What if you sat on the sofa while the light faded? Made something warm. Lit a candle. Read a few pages. Took a bath. Called someone you love. Or did absolutely nothing for a while.
There is a particular kind of rest that comes when you stop treating rest as preparation for your next productive period.
You don’t have to earn Sunday, or make it useful. You can simply live it.
So today, before you start mentally marching yourself into next week, look around.
You made it through this one. Some things worked, and some didn’t. Some things are unfinished, and that’s okay.
Tomorrow will arrive whether you’ve perfectly prepared for it or not. So for today, let yourself be here.
You don’t have to spend every quiet moment preparing for the next thing. Sometimes the next thing can wait.
See you tomorrow for your next Midlife Edit ❤️
