For years, many of us became exceptionally good at coping. We coped with the children, work, family, difficult conversations, unexpected bills, heartbreak — the endless list.
We became the woman people called because we could handle it, and somewhere along the way, coping became part of our identity.
But here are the questions I’m sitting with: What if you don’t actually want to keep proving how much you can handle? What if strength doesn’t have to mean carrying everything? What if strength can also look like asking for help?
Saying, “I can’t do that today.” Letting someone else take responsibility. Admitting that something is too much. Choosing the easier option. Going home. Resting. Walking away.
There is no medal for being permanently exhausted, and there is no requirement in midlife to continue performing the version of strength that kept us safe in our younger years.
Perhaps now strength can be quieter, more discerning, less interested in proving and more interested in protecting.
So today, notice where you’re automatically saying, “I’ll do it.” Then pause, ask yourself: Do I actually want to?
That tiny pause might change more than you think.
See you tomorrow for your next Midlife Edit ❤️

If something I’ve written has made you pause, think, smile, or see your own life a little differently, and you’d like to send a little love back my way, you can buy me a Matcha Latte.
It helps me keep creating these little moments of reflection, encouragement, and possibility for you. And honestly, knowing that something I’ve written has landed with you is the loveliest support of all.
