Hi 😊,
There is a very specific kind of waking that arrives in perimenopause: waking up abruptly at 3 am with your heart racing, your mind instantly alert, and a low-grade anxiety searching for something concrete to attach itself to. You lie in the dark, listing tomorrow’s obligations, wondering why you feel so wired when you are so bone-tired.
This is not a character flaw, and it is not evidence that you are failing at managing your life. It is physiological. As oestrogen fluctuates, your body becomes far more sensitive to cortisol. What you are feeling in the dark is a nervous system that has been running on high alert for decades, finally showing its exhaustion.
Today’s inspired action: If you wake at 3 am tonight, do not reach for your phone or fight the waking. Put one hand on your chest, take a long exhale, and whisper to yourself: This is just cortisol. My body is safe right now.
See you tomorrow for your next Midlife Edit ❤️
